Access By Air
The closest airport to Whistler is Vancouver International Airport, located 135 km south of Whistler. From Vancouver you’re less than 3 hours from Whistler and you can hire a car or take a shuttle bus to get there.
Access By Car
The drive from Vancouver International Airport is roughly 2.5 hours along the Sea to Sky Highway (scenic Highway 99). The drive is spectacular offering ocean and mountain views.
When the weather is good, the drive is considered easy as it’s only one road into Whistler driving North through Squamish. With many viewpoints along the way it’s worth taking in the views scoping out the waters of Howe Sound, Mount Garibaldi, The Chief in Squamish and Black Tusk. Although the drive on the Sea to Sky Highway is a fairly smooth drive, travellers also need to be aware of wildlife such as deers and bears.
If travelling on a weekend be aware of high volumes of traffic- Northbound on a Friday and Southbound on a Sunday (especially in the afternoons). It’s a good idea for travellers to plan their holiday to avoid peak times. This will allow for more time on the slopes.
One way and return car rentals are available from Vancouver and Whistler with Alamo, Budget, Discount, Hertz, National and Thrifty.
Whistler has four paid parking lots available for visitors, however it is worth checking if your accommodation offers onsite parking with your booking.
