Mammoth Mountain Ski Area lives up to its name with over 3,500 acres of skiable terrain. Mammoth enjoys a huge amount of snowfall with approximately 10 metres annually which also sees the resort have one of the longest operating seasons in North America.

Mammoth is the highest ski resort in California with an imposing top elevation of 3,369 metres and a vertical drop of 945 metres. With so much terrain to explore (157 names trails), there really is something for everyone (25% beginner, 40% intermediate, 35% advanced/expert).

The resort is prone to high winds which can see a number of lifts be put on 'wind hold'. The mountain top which is above the tree line tends to get smashed with high winds when a storm rolls through. A positive with the high winds is that they tend to blow existing snow around the mountain which sees areas receive a nice replenishment, and also means you may find some great powder stashes to explore without fresh snowfall.

Due to its proximity, Mammoth can get quite busy with punters from the nearby cities on the weekends. And if there's a fresh dump overnight you'll find the locals come out in force as there's arguably no better place to be!
