Iwate Snow Festival

One of Tohoku’s five ‘Great Snow Festivals’, the Iwate Snow Festival is held at Koiwai Farm in early February. There are many snow sculptures, large and small and you can also have fun sledding down a large snow slide, riding a horse sleigh, or riding a snow train. Warm up with the delicious food options available, from local Koiwai meat products to soups and amazake (a sweet drink made from fermented rice).
Guided forest exploration lift tour

Put on snowshoes and explore the natural forest of Appi Kogen on the guided forest exploration lift tour. Explore the snow and you’ll find the footprints of various animals, hear the chirping of wild birds and admire the stunning snow covered trees. This tour is suitable for all fitness levels as you will be using a lift, so physical strength is not required.
