Night Skiing in Hakuba
Niseko is the resort that gets all the notability when it comes to night skiing, and yes, it has great options! But, the Hakuba Valley too has plenty of options that need not be overlooked. So, if you want to experience the sheer magic of skiing fresh snow under floodlights, keep reading to find out more about night skiing in Hakuba.
If you haven’t been night skiing, we highly recommend you give it a go. The atmosphere is unparalleled and it makes for a pretty memorable experience for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. Night skiing is available at four of the 10 resorts in Hakuba, including Cortina, Goryu, Happo-One, and Tsugaike:
Cortina
Cortina is the only ski resort in Hakuba that is open for night skiing during the 2023/24 winter season. It’s the perfect resort for families and children who want to give skiing and boarding at night a go. Plus, if you’re planning on staying at the Hotel Green Plaza, you’ll have ski-in ski-out access all day and after the sun goes down.
Night ski dates at Cortina for the 2023/24 season:
- 29 December – 3 January
- 7 January
- 7 February
- 11 February
- Plus, every Saturday night in January and February
Goryu
Goryu has the largest night skiing area in Hakuba, and it’s usually one of the most popular. The Toomi slope, a 1,000m groomer, lights up for skiing every night during the winter season. Closing between 5:00pm and 6:00pm, the slope maintenance team groom the powder to perfect conditions so you can shred the slopes well into the evening.
Goryu night ski hours:
- Closed for grooming: 5:00pm – 6:00pm
- Open for night ski: 6:00pm – 9:30pm
Happo-One
*There will be no night skiing at Happo-One during the 2023/24 season.
When compared to Goryu, night skiing at Happo-One is a little limited. However, for those staying in or near Happo Village or Wadano Forest, it is very convenient. There is only one slope on Nakiyama that is lit up, and it’s pretty low and short, although it’s still a great option for those that want to experience that famous pow at night. Open every night night throughout the winter season.
Tsugaike
*There will be no night skiing at Tsugaike during the 2023/24 season.
Tsuigaike offers the most extensive night skiing options in the Hakuba Valley, providing plenty of terrain for all levels. From the Kane-no-naru-oka beginner slope to the more intermediate Karamatsu and the more advanced Shirakaba slope. Goryu night ski hours:
- New Year holiday period (daily): 6:00pm – 9:00pm
- Once a week (generally): 6:00pm – 9:00pm
