Everything You Need to Know About Snowbird

Snowbird, Utah is in the heart of the Wasatch-Cache National Forest in Little Cottonwood Canyon, one mile down canyon from Alta. Snowbird averages approximately 500 inches of low-density, “dry” Utah powder annually. Thanks to ideal geography and a phenomenon called Lake Effect, Little Cottonwood Canyon powder is known worldwide. Snowbird offers 882 lodging rooms between four lodging properties, a luxurious spa, a plethora of dining options, four-season activities and a staff dedicated to meeting your every need.

Insider Ski and Snowboard Tips

Being neighbours with Alta, Snowbird unsurprisingly sees its fair share of deep, dry Utah powder. It also boasts some of the steeper more challenging terrain out of neighbouring resorts. This combination means you’re sure to see some seriously talented skiers and snowboarders while you’re there – and you’ll also probably leave as one if you’re not one already.

Unique to Utah, Snowbird comes equipped with The Summit Tram, which fits 125 people and ascends 2,900ft in no more than 7 minutes. Put otherwise, it means you can ski a lot of vertical for not a lot of effort and in little time. Being adjacent to Alta, it’s even possible to ski both resorts on a single ticket.

Restaurants and Après

Considering Snowbird doesn’t have much of a village, there still exists a surprisingly broad range of choices when it comes to dining with 15+ restaurants and a number of other smaller cafes and bars.

Non Skiing Activities

Snowbird supports a range of non-skiing activities. Even if you’re not riding down, it’s very much worth riding the iconic Snowbird Aerial Tram to the 11,000-foot summit of Hidden Peak, from which you’ll see some of the most impressive views in Utah.

In addition to backcountry skiing and cat skiing tours, you can also get out there on your own two feet via a guided snowshoe tour, or with a little more noise, and a little less effort on a snowmobile. Other attractions include a tunnel through the mountain that swallows skiers on a conveyor belt and serves as a ‘ski through’ mining museum.
