Steamboat USA - Everything you need to know for your next Ski holiday

It takes between 3 and 4 hours from Denver International Airport (DEN) to get to Steamboat. Denver International Airport sees hundreds of nonstop, connecting and international flights on a daily basis, you’re going to get the most for your money flying into Denver. U.S. Carriers include Alaska, American, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest and United Airlines.

If you are wanting to avoid the drive from Denver to Steamboat, you can fly from Denver into Yampa Valley Regional Airport. With nonstop flights to Steamboat from 14 major cities during the ski season you can be on the mountain in only a few hours. Steamboat Springs is only minutes from the Yampa Valley Regional Airport. Shuttle services are available at (Yampa Valley Regional Airport) also known as Hayden Airport (HDN).

Car Hire

The drive from Denver International Airport to Steamboat is a beautiful scenic drive.

A few of the car hire companies you’ll find at Denver International Airport are Advantage, Hertz, National, Payless and Thrifty.

For winter driving, we recommend choosing a 4WD or all-wheel drive otherwise the car may require winter chains. It’s also worth checking the road conditions to check the I-70 status on road closures. This can happen in areas such as Eisenhower Tunnel, Vail Pass and the Continental Divide. The best part of this drive is that it is solide freeway driving for those who aren’t comfortable on windy narrow mountain roads.

If you are wanting to hire a car as an international driver, Colorado recognises drivers licenses from other countries for up to 90-days.

Note you must be 25 years of age in order to hire a car in the US. However some may make an exception in return for a higher rate. It would be best to contact the hire company if you are under the age of 25 to be sure hiring a car at a higher rate is possible.

Shuttle Transfer

Alpine Taxi Transfers offers daily scheduled shuttles from Denver International Airport (DEN) to Steamboat Springs. These shuttles will allow you to sit back and relax while the professional driver gets you to Steamboat safely. The drive is approximately 4.5 hours depending on traffic and weather conditions.

Getting Around Steamboat

For those without their own transportation, the city of Steamboat Springs offers a comprehensive system of FREE transportation between the ski area, downtown, as well as most hotel, condominium, restaurant, grocery and entertainment locations. The ski area is located 3 miles/4.8 km southeast of downtown Steamboat Springs.

We booked through Anna O’Malley for our stay in Nozawa onsen Village in Japan. Seamless service, prompt, and pricing reasonable. The Shimataya View Hotel, was a lovely stay. Room size was large, great views, and Amazing service from Staff. Momoi and Eloisa couldn’t help enough- from dinner reservations to organising luggage to Tokyo. Property is older, though clean, well maintained. 10 min walk to slopes, 5 min walk to village centre. I recommend Mountain Watch, and this property. Photos are the view from our room.
