How To Get To Mt Hutt

Mt Hutt is located in the middle of New Zealand’s South Island and is located less than 2 hours from Christchurch. Flying into Christchurch International Airport is the easiest way to access Mt Hutt, with direct flights available. We recommend hiring a car in Christchurch and then driving to Mt Hutt or if you’d prefer not to hire a car there are shuttle buses available from both Christchurch and accommodation in Methven.

Car Hire

Hiring a car is the most convenient and cost effective way of getting to Mt Hutt. We can pre-book your rental car for you so it’s ready to pick up when you arrive. Hiring a car also gives you the flexibility to visit other areas when having a rest day.

The car rentals we book through Go Rentals offer super simple pick up and drop off with their self service kiosks as well as offering outstanding on-road support and roadside assistance. Depending on your family or group size there are a variety of vehicles to choose, from small cars to large SUVs and 4WDs. We also recommend upgrading to ‘All Inclusive’ which provides you insurance cover, tyre and windscreen cover, snow chains and GPS, giving you complete peace of mind. If you’re under the age of 21 you may not be eligible to hire a car, so a shuttle bus option may be more suitable. We booked through Anna O’Malley for our stay in Nozawa onsen Village in Japan. Seamless service, prompt, and pricing reasonable. The Shimataya View Hotel, was a lovely stay. Room size was large, great views, and Amazing service from Staff. Momoi and Eloisa couldn’t help enough- from dinner reservations to organising luggage to Tokyo. Property is older, though clean, well maintained. 10 min walk to slopes, 5 min walk to village centre. I recommend Mountain Watch, and this property. Photos are the view from our room.
