How To Get To Furano

Furano is located on the North Island of Hokkaido so the easiest way to get here is to fly into New Chitose Airport in Sapporo, which is roughly 2 hours from Furano. Depending where you’re coming from you can either fly directly into Sapporo or via a domestic flight from Tokyo. Another option is flying into Asahikawa Airport which is only 1 hour from Furano but flights are less frequent. Read on below for all the details and if you require assistance speak to one of our Japan travel specialists.

Direct Coach Transfer

Once you arrive in Sapporo the best way to get here is a pre-booked coach transfer which will take you directly to your Furano accommodation. Transfers are available directly from New Chitose Airport or from Sapporo City and takes around 2.5 hours. We can pre-book a direct coach transfer for you with any of our Furano packages.

Private Transfer

If your flights don’t line up with the coach timetables or you’re wanting a private shuttle, that can also be arranged. Your driver will meet you at the arrival lobby and will drive you directly to your accommodation in Furano. While this option is generally more expensive it can work well if you’re travelling with a large group or family. We can pre-book this for you with any of our Furano Packages.

Train

Another option you have is a local train to Furano Station, however it requires transferring at Sapporo Station and Takikawa Station so we recommend the direct coach transfer for a more hassle free trip.

If you’re visiting other cities in Japan, they have an extensive rail network for getting around. There are some helpful sites for planning your journey from city to city, we recommend Hyperdia or the Japan Travel App by Navitime.

Buying a JR Rail Pass is often the most cost effective option if you’re looking to travel via the Shinkansen to other cities before or after your ski trip. Speak to one of our Japan specialists and they’ll be able to recommend the best option for you.

Luggage Delivery Service

If you’re brining your own skis or snowboard and spending time in other cities of Japan, there is a convenient luggage delivery service. You can send your luggage ahead to the airport or accommodation and pick it up when you arrive. This is perfect if you’re wanting to spend time in Tokyo or other cities before or after your ski trip but don’t want to haul your luggage on the trains.

If you want to send your ski gear you can arrange this at the airport or your hotel reception. Luggage delivery usually takes about 1 – 3 days depending on where you send it from and costs between ¥1500-3000 depending on size and
distance.

Visit Yamato Transport or “Black Cat” for more info.
