Beaver Creek delivers an unmatched mountain experience and epitomises the ‘luxury ski resort’. Upscale galleries, high-end boutiques and premium lodging options exceed even the highest expectations and you won’t have to worry about walking in those pesky ski boots thanks to escalators that travel to the slopes from the plaza and bus area. The white glove service seemingly knows no bounds and you can even look forward to free cookies that are handed out in the afternoon. Even better, whilst nearby Vail may be bustling, Beaver Creek is generally safe from the hordes who want to be seen and instead its visitors go for the excellent skiing and snowboarding the resort offers in addition to its sophistication and privacy.
Insider Ski and Snowboard Tips
Beaver Creek presents terrain for all abilities. The best beginner and intermediate terrain can be found around Arrowhead Village and Bachelor Gulch, whilst Centennial is perfect if you want to up the ante a little and progress to some steeper aspects at greater speed. It’s worth mentioning, the trees between most runs at Beaver can be tight, so be prepared before taking them on. However, Yonder Trees, Coyote Glade or Vitro’s are excellent places to start.
For the more advanced, Beaver Creek, like many of the other Colorado resorts is replete with a number of chutes and cliff bands with pitches approaching a steep 45 degrees.
One insider tip is to get your hands on a so-called ‘grooming report’ before hopping on the chair so you’ll know where to go to get your hands on some corduroy and perhaps more importantly, where to go to get the pow!
Access
Beaver Creek is one of the more luxurious ski destinations around, located just west of Vail, near the town of Avon, Colorado, off of Interstate 70. Conveniently, Beaver Creek is just a two-hour drive from Denver International Airport.
Accommodation
In keeping with its luxurious label, Beaver Creek offers premium lodging options, from luxury hotels and condos, to slope-side vacation homes and signature ski-in/ski-out properties throughout.
Restaurants and Après
Beaver Creek does not have the same après scene you’ll find at nearby Vail – a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it. In fact, the bars close by 12:30 am so anyone after a late night can head to Avon (3.2km) or Vail (16km). With over two dozen restaurants and over 10 bars, there’s plenty of choice when it comes to eating out and with names like the Coyote Café (Beaver Creek’s first bar), Hooked, the Flying Pig and Blue Moose Pizza – you’re sure to have a good time.
Non Skiing Activities
Beaver Creek charms with fantastic extras: heated moving walkways, fresh-baked cookies, a first-tracks program for early risers, a white-carpet club and even wine-and-snowshoe excursions. The village itself offers up plenty of off-mountain activity with plenty of shops, restaurants and spas, and at the center of it all, an outdoor ice rink. Take in a show at the beautiful Vilar Performing Arts Center, which features a wide variety of performance acts throughout the year.
