Mammoth Mountain Finally Closes for the 2018/19 Season. Only 100 Days Until the Start Of the 2019/20 Season
Mammoth has lived up to its name with a mammoth season finally ending today – July 28 in the US. The season was 260 days long with 18.2 metres of snow and had everything from epic pow days, wild weather, some massive dumps and then a long spring into a hot summer.
Like other resorts in California’s Sierras February was a huge month for snow with a monthly total of 5.7 metres, the first storm for the month dropping 2.3 metres in a four-day period from Feb 2-5. That was backed up a few days later by a 10-day total of 3.09 metres from Feb 9-18.
During that period there was some incredible powder skiing and the snow falls continued into March with another monthly total of 1.9 metres. That set up a great spring and while temps over the month have been hot, accelerating the snow melt, the summer skiing and snowboarding has been fun.
It is now mountain bike season on Mammoth, but they won’t have to wait long until the lifts are spinning again for skiing and snowboarding with the 2019/20 season scheduled to open on November 9, just 100 days away.
