La Niña Serves Up Early, Plentiful Fresh Powder To Japan!
La Niña is already delivering the goods with colder temperatures and consistent snowfall – the taps are on full blast with no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
As we head into the season, the numbers are already looking promising, with early snowfall in Japan surpassing last year’s totals by up to 30%. It’s safe to say we’re off to an epic start!
Although it’s still early in the month, Japan has already received substantial Ja-POW hailing down in several key areas. Hakuba, Niseko, Nozawa Onsen and Myoko Kogen have reported impressive totals, with Niseko leading the pack with 82cm of fresh snow since December began.
A variety of terrain is already open across the country, and early birds are already carving up the slopes with little competition for fresh untracked runs!
Hakuba early-season highlights
Hakuba Valley has reported around 40-50cm over the past weekend, followed by a stellar bluebird day earlier this week with a whopping 50cm snow dump forecasted for the upcoming weekend. It’s not just about quantity —the quality of the snow is what really makes Japan stand out, and from day 1, we’ve been seeing the light, fluffy, dry, and powdery stuff that we all love so much.

Looking ahead…
As we move further into December, snowfall is expected to increase. By mid-month, totals are on track to well exceed 100cm, signalling the start of a nearly record-breaking start of season snow across Japan and further heavy snowfalls are predicted in the coming week.
The start to the season points toward an above-average snowfall season in Japan and the demand has already been massive, with many popular packages already fully booked for January and February.
